Home Visitor Job Description

A full-time home visitor (1 FTE; 40 hours per week) will be hired to implement birth – age 3 home visiting in the southeast part of the district.  The home visitor will serve a caseload of 15-20 children.  Hiring and direct supervision will be conducted by the Director of Early Childhood Education and Coordinator of Early Childhood Education in collaboration with elementary administrators in schools which are served. Funding is provided through a grant from Sixpence.

Job Responsibilities

  • Recruit pregnant women and/or families with children between birth and age 3 from the local school area to participate in the program.
  • Participate in developing, scheduling and delivering the home visiting program activities including home visits, parent-child group meetings, transition to school activities, and other programmatic activities.
  • Provide regular, individualized home visits to each family 3 times per month using the selected home visiting model and curriculum.
  • Conduct child screenings, share results with parents, and make necessary referrals to appropriate providers for follow up assessment as needed.
  • Collaborate and communicate with a variety of community partners to promote the mutual access of children and families to community services that are responsive to their needs.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and technical assistance, including collaborative teamwork within and across participating schools.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the home visiting program through documentation of program activities and assessments as required by the Sixpence grant.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood development and education, child, youth and family studies, family science, social work or closely related field with coursework directly related to infants and toddlers.
  • Knowledge of early development with an emphasis on infant/toddlers, early language and literacy.
  • Knowledge of families living in poverty and functioning under conditions of high stress.
  • Experience working with racially, culturally, or linguistically diverse children and families.
  • Experience working in a home visiting, infant/toddler early childhood, or parent education program that includes developing and leading developmentally appropriate interactive group experiences with parents and children between birth and age 3.
  • Experience collaborating with a variety of community agencies working with children and families.
  • A good driving record, reliable vehicle and personal auto insurance for making home visits to families (mileage reimbursed). 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills to work with ELL children/families in the local school area.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated capacity to work as a team player.
  • Ability to develop strong, mutually respectful relationships with families and other community partners.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills that blend well with the critical need for flexibility and initiative.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in different aspects of the position.
  • Strong computer, written and oral communication skills.

 

Additional Considerations

 

The home visitor position is a full time/full year (12 months) position that completes job responsibilities within a flex schedule that best meets the needs of the families/children enrolled, the staff and the school.  This may include late afternoon or early evening home visits, parent-child group activities, or other meetings.
