POSITION SUMMARY

 

This position provides routine manual and technical labor associated with the maintenance, troubleshooting, service and repair of high school HVAC, mechanical, electrical, electronic, plumbing, fire alarm, and swimming pool systems. Work is performed using moderate physical strength and duties include troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions of building plant equipment; assisting with the implementation and evaluation of the preventative maintenance program for the high school; acquiring and maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and parts; maintaining current records; coordinating service activities of others; performing equipment inspections; and performing routine service on building plant equipment.  Additional tasks associated with the district's operations and maintenance is also required.  This is a non-exempt level position; employee must be able to work overtime as needed.

 

A Grade III Stationary Engineer license must be acquired within 13 months of hire. Swimming pool operator license must be acquired withing 6 months of hire. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Troubleshoot, service and repair building plant equipment including HVAC, mechanical, electrical, electronic, DDC, lighting, pneumatics, and plumbing systems and equipment.  Complete work order requisitions by replacing/repairing faulty equipment as needed, changing filters, and maintaining equipment, supplies, and inventory.  Will also test water for proper chemical levels (75%).
  • Assist with the supervision of and provide technical assistance to building personnel.  Assist with evaluation and implementation of the preventative maintenance program for the building.  Service and maintain swimming pool equipment and chemical condition of pool water (15%).
  • Maintain appropriate paperwork and prepare reports as needed.  Aid in the set-up for meetings, dances, athletics and activities, and install or repair miscellaneous items that may be used in schools, such as weather stations, athletic equipment, and industrial arts equipment.  Conduct and attend in-service programs.  Must have the ability to adjust to change and handle other essential tasks as assigned (10%).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Formal certified training in HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and electrical systems is required
  • Three years' experience in HVAC and four years' experience in light commercial and residential HVAC service is preferred
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and solving complex problems in electrical installations, electronic controls, and electrical codes, heating systems, refrigeration systems, pneumatic controls, and plumbing systems
  • Ability to successfully complete assigned training courses or seminars in HVAC, phone, intercom, energy management, and clock systems
  • Ability to plan, implement, complete and evaluate the complete mechanical maintenance program on a building level
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics
  • Ability to direct and coordinate personnel engaged in maintenance work
  • Ability to establish and maintain parts and inventory records
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to work in cramped crawl spaces and from ladders and scaffolding
  • Ability to maintain good working relations and work habits

 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE

 

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and meet all district requirements for driving school district vehicles
  • City of Omaha Grade III Stationary Engineer license is required OR will be acquired within 13 months of assignment.  Failure to acquire this license will result in a transfer to a custodial position or termination if employee is unwilling to accept the transfer.
  • NE State Pool Operators License is required OR will be acquired within 6 months of assignment.  Failure to acquire this license will result in a transfer to a custodial position or termination if employee is unwilling to accept the transfer.
  • CFC and HCFC certification is preferred
