Title: Electrician (Group 13)
Reports to: Maintenance Manager
General Summary:
This position requires routine manual labor associated with installation, modification, testing, inspection and maintenance to electrical items such as but not limited to: lighting, power distribution, circuit controls, and appliances throughout the District both interior and exterior. Employees in this job classification are under the supervision of the Mechanical Manager. This position will be responsible for providing cost estimates per job task as well as final costs after jobs are completed. Additionally, shopping around for the best pricing for materials, and or the best quality product for the job will be required. Must demonstrate acceptable interpersonal skills and working relations with co-workers, staff, students and general public.
Essential Functions:
- Performs duties associated with electrical work. Receive, monitor, and complete work orders and schedule work accordingly. Work will include, but is not limited to; electric motors, controllers, or other auxiliary electrical devices; installing new wiring and electrical machinery; bend and install conduit, install concealed wiring, isolate and repair defective circuits as required, dismantle electrical machinery and break connections; replace defective parts, reassemble and test for proper operations; check and repair lighting systems; work with alarm systems and intercom systems as necessary. Follows all safety requirements including the use of Lock Out – Tag Out devices, personal protective equipment, etc. Ability to work from prints and diagrams to determine layout, location, and specifications of items to install, repair or modify. Update Facility Management Plans/blueprints when changes are made. Must have thorough understanding of the District’s energy management computer system to know how to test equipment during troubleshooting and make sure it is operating correctly. Maintain the facility’s electrical distribution systems according to the national, state and local electrical codes, and facility regulatory agencies. (70%)
- Performs tasks associated with the District’s Preventative Maintenance Program. (15%)
- Inventory stock on hand, and requisition supplies as needed with approval from supervisor. Estimate costs on materials needed per job. Maintains appropriate and required paperwork, and prepares reports as needed. Ability to react to change and handle other essential tasks as assigned. (15%)
Qualifications:
Education Level:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Nebraska Contractor Electrician License required or will be acquired within 12 months of assignment. Must keep license up to date by taking required annual training.
Experience desired:
- Minimum five years experience in commercial and industrial environment working as an electrician.
Other requirements:
- Possess a valid driver’s license and meet all district requirements for driving school vehicles.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, install and maintain motors, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers and transformers.
- Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.
- Maintain a safe electrical environment for faculty, students and other employees.
- Physically able to perform required responsibilities.
- Ability to perform tasks alone, or with others.
- Work with contractors for a satisfactory completion on contracted projects.
- Basic math and the ability to measure and calculate quantities of material.
- Able to work in cramped crawl spaces and to work off ladders scaffolding and personal lifts.
- Ability to set up, safely operate, and care for all basic hand and powered tools.
- Be available for on-call rotation and overtime as required.
- Work with safety and electrical training programs to improve safety and knowledge of custodial and engineering employees.
- Must have thorough understanding of energy management computer system, to know how to test equipment during troubleshooting and make sure it is operating correctly, in normal operation, once repairs have been made.
- Be available for on-call and overtime as required.
- Work alone when project does not require more than one to complete a task
- Work with contractors for a satisfactory completion on contracted projects.
- Keep master electrician license up-to-date by taking required annual training.
- Update prints when changes and updates are made.
- Work with safety and electrical training programs to improve safety and knowledge of custodial and engineering employees.
