Title: Special Education Certified Medical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant


Reports to: Building Principal, School Nurse Department Head


General Summary:
Assists the certified teacher and provides instructional support to students with disabilities while performing activities requiring specialized judgment and skills in the observation, care, and counseling of ill and injured persons and in illness prevention.


Essential Functions:
1. Supports certified personnel by assisting with the academic instruction of individual or small groups of students to reinforce and follow-up learning: including accompanying students to general education classes, lunch and other supervision.
2. Assists with implementing individual and classroom behavior management plans which may include, reinforcing social skills, documenting behavior, and maintaining on-task appropriate behavior.
3. Supervises the student in non-classroom activities, such as recess, lunch, bus boarding, and restroom breaks.
4. Assists with other classroom responsibilities: setting up learning stations, organizing and distributing materials, lunch count, attendance, etc.
5. Assists students with personal hygiene needs: toileting, diapering, feeding, button G-tube feeding, etc.. Places, lifts and positions students in standers or walkers as directed.
6. In accordance with Nebraska Department of Education Regulations, administers medication to students as directed.
7. Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
8. Knows and complies with district policies, rules, and procedures.
9. Knows and complies with State school laws, regulations, and recommendations regarding school health.
10. Maintains Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification.
11. Understands the general school program and how student health services support the educational programs and services.


Qualifications:
1. Education Level: Two-year degree preferred. Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant program required.
2. Certification or Licensure: Completion of Certified Medical Assistant Program, Nebraska Special Services Teaching Certificate. Current CPR and First Aid certificates.
3. Experience desired: Experience as a Certified Medical Assistant preferred
4. Other requirements: Possess skills necessary to perform responsibilities.
